Excellence is never an accident.  It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Choice, not chance determines your destiny.

About Lisa Collins

A third generation, pastor’s kid (“PK”) Lisa Collins is a faith outreach expert and the  founder/publisher of L.A. Focus Newspaper, a monthly publication that—coupled with a weekly digital edition— fuels her passion for equipping Black Angelenos with information and resources to make better choices in their lives, while spotlighting news and issues of interest and showcasing the church as a critical component in community empowerment.

L.A. Focus spotlights community and political news, entertainment and business information and a circulation upwards of 30,000 with its largest distribution base in upwards of 350 L.A. area churches. Additionally, L.A. Focus has published two editions of “The Ultimate Guide to Churches in Los Angeles” and has compiled the most comprehensive list of megachurches in the United States.

For the last 27 years, she has also produced L.A. Focus’ Annual First Ladies High Tea, which draws upwards of 700- 1,000 women and over 50 churches for an afternoon of inspiration and praise at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The annual red-carpet event honors the role women of faith play in shaping the next generation, while providing scholarships to at-risk youth and galvanizing the faith community around critical issues. Past honorees/participants include Vice President Kamala Harris, First Lady Jennifer Newsom, TV One Founder Cathy Hughes, Johnny Mathis, Debbie Allen, the late Cicely Tyson and CeCe Winans.

Prior to establishing L.A. Focus, Lisa served as gospel editor at Billboard Magazine from 1989 through 2004.  Her career in gospel began in 1988, with her creation of “Inside Gospel”, a daily/weekly syndicated radio series that provided news, profiles and product updates relative to the gospel music community. For the next eight years, she would also serve as executive producer of the show that was broadcast in more than 100 markets nationwide.

In 1993, she established "The Gospel Music Industry Round-Up", dubbed by USA Today as "gospel's yellow pages" and by gospel insiders as "the Bible of the gospel music industry". Aside from L.A. Focus, Collins has written well over 300 articles on a variety of issues for a number of national publications from Essence to Upscale.
